The 21st century celebrity unmasked

Frank Sinatra: A musical legend with
an extraordinary talent
I was having a long conversation with somebody today about fame and fortune and both of their meanings and It's got me thinking about how we define and view celebrities.
It's now become so ridiculously easy to become famous that the word 'celebrity' can no longer be defined as simply 'being celebrated', instead it's a term which every other person is for no apparent reason.
It seriously winds me up when the modern celebrity claim on their reality tv shows  "I've got to keep working to look after my kids" but their idea of work is doing a 5 minute interview on daytime television alongside a camera crew following them around their everyday lives, earning a fortune yet still complaining about there workload! - when people work 24/7 and earn next to nothing but they're still hardworking individuals with a kind and humble heart. If I honestly wanted, I could parade around central London naked tomorrow protesting, gain press attention through doing a few interviews for national television and the next day I'd be recognised as 'a celebrity'.
Mark who?
Fame is no longer valued like it used to be. It was once defined through success but it's now given on a plate to certain people and even then they take it for granted. Particularly, these reality tv stars who now walze around with faux Birkin bags thinking they have the world at their fingertips awaiting for their next little fan to run along and make them feel that little bit more famous. and what have they done to deserve such power in society?

Answer: Nothing.

Under no circumstances am I generalising all 21st century celebrities as ungrateful and immodest as I know for a fact that many will be quite the opposite but I just wish that we'd stop the mass production of celebrities that have no reason to be celebrated.
